Dupes That You’ve Probably Not Heard Of (And Some That You May Have)

Save or Splurge is our quarterly piece where we talk about dupes to popular items across all kinds of beauty and skincare. We also include links on where you can order from.

We know that the beauty world is expensive af. Sometimes the products are too highly priced, inaccessible to where we live, discontinued, or sometimes we want to try something similar before committing our cash to a brand new product. For this very reason, we came up with this “Save or Splurge” list – where we curated a comprehensible rundown of everything that you can get at a lower price, without compromising on the quality.

1.Nyx Conceal Correct Contour Palette vs Mac Conceal and Correct Palette

At 1/3rd of the price, you end up with a palette that comes in identical quality, packaging, and shade range.
MAC Conceal and Correct Palette : Rs 4000
Nyx Conceal Correct Contour Palette: Rs 1325
You save : Rs 2675
Get the Nyx palette here and the Mac one here.

2. Nyx Epic Ink Eyeliner vs Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

Both come with a flexible, tiny, precise brush tip that delivers a super feline flick in a jet black, immovable pigment.

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner: $20 or approximately Rs 1391
Nyx Epic Ink Eyeliner : Rs 825
You save: Rs 566
You can find the Nyx liner here. (No link for Kat Von D because this platform does not support anti-vaxxers.)

3. Wet n Wild Coloricon Eyeshadow Palette in Comfort Zone vs Master by Mario Palette by Anastasia Beverly Hill

The Master by Mario Palette was limited edition and therefore, has now since been discontinued (RIP). It still shows up on eBay from time to time for upwards of 60 grands (gasp!), but when Kim Kardashian’s personal MUA designs a palette, you don’t think twice, you just buy it. Luckily for us, the Wet n Wild palette is a dupe for the ABH one, and serves the same quality as well.
Master by Mario Palette : $45 or Rs 3200 approx
Wet n Wild Palette: Rs 499
You save : Rs 2701
You can find the Wet n Wild one here.

4. Nyx Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette in Warm Neutrals vs Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

Since the launch of its Naked palette series, Urban Decay has become quite a sought after palette in the realm of beauty. Without any compromise on the quality, I present to you, a dupe that will save your coins and help you serve looks
Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette: $54 or Rs 4000 approx
Nyx Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette: Rs 1725
You save : Rs 2275

5. Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Nude Nuance vs Mac Matte Lipstick in Whirl

Kylie Jenner is credited partially, if not wholly, for reviving the 90s nude brown lipstick trend with her combination of Mac Whirl lipstick worn over Mac Soar lip liner. Get the same look without breaking your bank with this drugstore dupe (and for a better texture, in my honest opinion).
MAC Whirl: Rs 1650
Maybelline Nude Nuance: Rs 299
You save: Rs 1351
Get the Whirl in both Mini or Original size here, or the Maybelline Nude Nuance here.

6. Nyx Holographic Halo Strobing Precision Brush vs Nars Ita Kabuki Brush No. 21

The designs of the Kabuki brushes by Nars were inspired by Japan’s Kabuki Theater tradition, and feature a rustic, but ergonomic design. This particular brush is angular, precise, and a cult favourite for contour or highlight. You can find a dupe for it in the Nyx Precision brush for an unbelievable quality and price.
Nars Ita Kabuki Brush: $55 or Rs 4000 approx
Nyx Precision Strobing Brush: Rs 1400
You save: Rs 2600 or a nice dinner for two
Get the Nars brush here or the Nyx brush here.

7. Loreal Lash Paradise vs Two Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Both of these mascaras need no introduction, and the dupe itself is so popular that it pops up in at least the first five searches on Google when you look for beauty dupes. The list would be incomplete without this comparison.
Two Faced Better than Sex: $24 or Rs 1669
Loreal Lash Paradise: Rs 799
You save: 870
Get the Two Faced mascara here and the Loreal one here.

8. Nyx Doll Eyes Mascara vs Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir

This mascara is a favourite amongst most celebrity makeup artists for its blackness, its volume and length, and its non flaking formula. The Nyx mascara promises the same for the fraction.

Nyx Doll Eyes Mascara: Rs 825
You save: 983
Edit: We found that currently the Nyx mascara is sold out everywhere – but as soon as it gets restocked, we will update this link.

9. Innisfree Black Green Tea Cream vs Fresh Black Tea Firming Corset Cream

Both of these are loaded on antioxidants and deliver similar firming, collagen boosting and plumping effects on the skin. The Innisfree comes with an added advantage of green tea, so you’re basically getting more while paying less.
Fresh Beauty Black Tea Cream: $95 or a whopping Rs 6607
Innisfree Black Green Tea Cream: 2700
You save: 3907 and your glowing youthfulness
Find the Innisfree Cream here or the Fresh one here.

10. Kiko Milano Smart Cult Eyeshadow Palette 02 vs Charlotte Tilbury The Icon Palette

Inspired by the gender fluid, androgynous, jewel toned and bright blues, greens, reds and purples of David Bowie’s iconic 80’s sartorial choices, Charlotte Tilbury released this palette and the world couldn’t have enough of it, except, some of us don’t have enough money or means to access this (sad reax only). I recently visited a Kiko store in Delhi and found this palette to be eerily similar to the Icon palette, and for way less than the original.
Charlotte Tilbury Icon Palette: $65 Rs 4521
Kiko Milano Smart Cult Palette: Rs 1970
You save: 2551
Get the Icon palette here or the Kiko palette here.

Fresh Black Tea Mask: $92 or 6398
Innisfree Black Green Tea Mask: Rs 1900
You save: Rs 4498
You can find the Innisfree mask here or the Fresh Beauty mask here.

12. Laneige Water Sleeping Mask vs Dior Hydra Life Jelly Sleeping Mask

Both these sleeping masks are infused with Hyaluronic acid to boost your skin’s hydration and help you wake up with glowing, juicy complexion. The Dior one is hard to get your hands on in India at times but the dupe is available easily.
Dior Sleeping Mask: $69 or Rs 5199
Laneige Sleeping Mask: 1850
You save: Rs 3349
You can get a mini sized Laneige for 700 bucks, or buy the full sized here. The Dior one can be found in all Sephora stores offline, or order here.

13. The Balm Hot Mama Blush vs Nars Orgasm Blush

This is a not so popular dupe but the most accurate dupe for the cult favourite Nars blush yet. Both the blushes are gorgeous with the best formulas for the job.
Nars Orgasm: $30 or Rs 2261
The Balm Hot Mama: Rs 1649
You save: Rs 612
Get the Nars blush from here, and the Balm blush from here.

14. O3+ Plunge Watermelon Glow Mask vs Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask

Yes yes, one is a mask and the other a sleeping mask. But Glow Recipe mentions that this mask is a multitasker, and can be left on for 10 minutes as a thicker layer and then washed off as a normal mask.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Mask: $45 or Rs 3130
O3+ Plunge Mask: Rs 740
You save: Rs 2390
You find the Glow Recipe mask here and the O3+ Plunge mask here.

15. Nicka K Radiant Liquid Eyeshadow in Polaris Peach vs Stila Glitter and Glow in Smoldering Satin

I found this dupe on accident, and for those who go bling only on occasion and do not want to spend a hefty amount on the Stila shadow, can definitely try the Nicka K one.
Stila Eyeshadow: Rs 1809
Nicka K eyeshadow: Rs 395
You save: Rs 1414
Get the Stila one here or the Nicka K one here.

16. Revolution 30% AHA+BHA Peeling Solution vs The Ordinary Peeling Solution

Okay, this one is not technically a save or splurge situation, because the Revolution one is actually more expensive than the Ordinary one. But if you don’t want to go through the hassle of ordering internationally, you can definitely give this a try.
Revolution Peeling Solution: Rs 1800
The Ordinary Peeling Solution: $7.20 or Rs 501 + mental peace
Difference : Rs 1299
Order the Ordinary Peeling Solution here or the Revolution Peeling Solution here.

17. Chambor Powder Matte Lipstick in Indian Fusion vs Nars Velvet Matte Pencil in Walkyrie

Walkyrie is not a cult favourite but a pretty popular dark medium nude shade which is universally flattering. I have both and chanced upon this dupe on accident.
Nars Walkyrie: Rs 2035
Chambor Indian Fusion: Rs 645
You save: Rs 1390
Get the Nars Walkyrie here or the Chambor Lipstick here.

18. Revolution ReLoaded Palette in Velvet Rose vs Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette

This again is a popular dupe, but I’m adding it here because this palette and colour scheme is perfect to either tone it up or down, especially for someone who loves only neutrals on their eyes. Then again, it is a great neutral that ideally should be in everyone’s kit as well.
ABH Soft Glam: $42 or Rs 2920
Revolution Velvet Rose: Rs 850
You save: Rs 2070
Get the ABH Soft Glam here or the Revolution one here.

Wet n Wild Pearlescent Pink: Rs 299
You save: Rs 666 or the Satan (geddit)
Get Warm Hibiscus here or Pearlescent Pink here.

19. PAC Brush No 033 vs Mac Brush No. 217

These are both flat, fluffy brushes that are, I’m not kidding, IDENTICAL. Best for both blending or packing in the product, this is duo-purpose brush that is a must have for every beginner or pro.
MAC 217: Rs 2000
PAC 033: Rs 635
You save: Rs 1365
The MAC brush can be sourced from here, and the PAC one from here.

20. Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Scrub vs Fresh Sugar Face Polish

Apart from the difference that Fresh has strawberry extracts and therefore could help brighten more than Klairs, they’re same. Bonus – Klairs formulates specifically for sensitive skin, so this is a scrub that is bound to be both cleansing and exfoliating, as well as gentle on your skin.
Fresh Face Scrub: Rs 4671
Klairs Scrub: Rs 1570
You save: Rs 3102
Get the Klairs one here or the Fresh Face Polish here.

21. Loreal Pure Clay Detox Mask vs GlamGlow PowerMud

Same composition. Same function. Lesser price. Not gonna say more.

22. Dr Sheth’s Gulab and Glycolic Toner vs Pixi Glow Tonic

I’ve personally been a fan of the Glow Tonic so I was kind of thrilled to come across this toner by Dr Sheth’s, which also contains rose extracts (instead of ginseng that is in the Glow Tonic) to soothe and hydrate the Indian skin. Both contain 5% glycolic acid.
Pixi Glow Tonic: $29 or Rs 2016
Dr Sheths Toner: Rs 499
You save: Rs 1517
You can order the Pixi tonic here or the Sheth’s Toner here.

23. Wet n Wild Retractable Brow Pencil vs Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer

ABH Brow Definer: $23 or Rs 1600
Wet n Wild Brow Pencil: Rs 399
You save: Rs 1201
Get the ABH one here or the Wet n Wild one here.

24. Kiko Milano Daily Protection BB Cream vs Chanel Les Beiges All in One Healthy Glow Cream

This was a chance find after a lot of research online. The Chanel one was discontinued (Harrod’s still stocks it online but the SPF 15 version). Both of them offer sheer to medium coverage, are seamless, contain SPF. They’re a dream base to minimalist.
Chanel Healthy Glow Cream: Rs 2656
Kiko BB Cream: Rs 1290
